Kevin
Murphy, Director of Learning Technologies in inlets,
heads a multimedia team that designs and develops interactive
teaching and learning materials. As well, he is involved in
ongoing professional development and technology integration
initiatives within Calgary Academy.
From
the beginning of his career he has looked for different ways
to share what he has learned with teachers. While
working with disabled skiing he created a manual and video
that was used across North America to teach developmentally
disabled people how to ski.
He
began working with computers in the early 80's and taught
technology and learning-related courses at the university
and college levels as well in K to 12. He has combined
his special ed. and technology backgrounds to produce a computer
program that generates Individual Education Plans and to create
two interactive CD-ROM titles - “Improving
Behavior: K to 6”, and “Writing
Effective IEPs”.
He consults in the areas of instructional design, database
design, technology integration, IEPs/IPPs., and behavior.
Kevin's
educational experience includes 15 years in the classroom,
K to 12, with a strong emphasis on special needs, 8 years
as a System Learning and Behavior Specialist in Student Services
with the Calgary Board of Education in the high needs areas
of Calgary, and 2 years as a Project Manager with Alberta
Learning, where he was responsible for province-wide initiatives
related to behavioral issues in schools.
He
holds an MSc in educational psychology from the University
of Oregon, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Technology and
Learning from the University of Calgary.
